{"id":5965,"date":"2016-10-10T14:43:50","date_gmt":"2016-10-10T18:43:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/beta.croisee.org\/?p=5965&#038;lang=en"},"modified":"2018-02-19T17:18:45","modified_gmt":"2018-02-19T22:18:45","slug":"what-does-community-mean","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/croisee.org\/en\/what-does-community-mean\/","title":{"rendered":"What does &#8220;Community&#8221; mean?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">The members of the La Croisee Community Association (178 and growing) understand the answer to that question.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Whatever words are used to describe community, we value it in one way or another.\u00a0But if\u00a0 words used to define community are difficult to grasp you can find them &#8211; in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.designedlearning.com\/portfolio-view\/community-the-structure-of-belonging\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">bibliographies\/references<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tamarackcommunity.ca\/communityengagement\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">organizations<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imaginecanada.ca\/who-we-are\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">charities<\/a> and even <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=C1WSkXWSJac\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ted Talks<\/a>. You can find many others.<br \/>\n <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-4359\" src=\"https:\/\/croisee.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/LaCroiseeFV-017-1024x682.jpg\" alt=\"La Crois\u00e9e FetesdesVoisins\" width=\"630\" height=\"420\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Another perspective is provided by the <a href=\"http:\/\/communityfoundations.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Community Foundations of Canada<\/a> in their study \u201cVital Signs &#8211; &#8220;Belonging: Exploring Connection to Community\u201d.\u00a0 This study looks at the relationship between our sense of belonging and social participation in Canada.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <em>\u201cAs you\u2019ll discover throughout this report \u2014 belonging and social participation influence each other. The more we get involved in the community, the more we feel like we belong. The stronger our sense of belonging, the more willing we are to contribute to the community because we feel responsible for its well-being. Scientists and statisticians call that a positive correlation. We call it the key to community vitality.\u201d<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"> Their report offers a number of \u201csnapshots\u201d of Canadian community in 2015, and most certainly, another interesting read.
